Chelsea Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Links as Pure Gossip

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has branded recent reports connecting him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".

The Italian manager, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

Maresca, named Chelsea manager in the summer of 2024, has a contract running through the end of the decade, with a potential extension option.

"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is no time for these kind of things."

He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I have stated many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was linked with Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."

Chelsea, presently placed fourth in the top flight, are set to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off.

Strain After Recent Remarks

Maresca's latest statement follow after he referred to a previous two-day spell as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.

Those initial remarks had sparked widespread speculation of a potential rift between the coach and the club's key decision-makers.

When asked if he had discussed matters with the club's leadership, Maresca replied, "We are in the same building, so we talk about various topics. But about the Everton media session, no."

The Italian however affirmed he would definitely remain at the club for the coming campaign and urged the fans to keep backing the team".

In more positive news, Maresca revealed that sidelined forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, possibly in contention for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.

Perspective: Unresolved Tension

The apparent disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy persists as an unhealed issue that still cause concern.

While there has been no deepening of the situation publicly, there has also been no apology offered, creating the matter unaddressed.

The atmosphere during the manager's press conferences has become increasingly strained, raising fears it could undermine what has up to now been a promising start to the season.

Chelsea's sporting position is strong: they are in the top four in the league, have qualified for the League Cup last four, and can achieve a favourable Champions League position with strong results in their final games.
